Torn Between Two Lovers

Updated: Jan 7, 2021

Seven year old me.

About the time I said to God, "No one else can have the part of me I gave to you."

Best choice I ever made.

There was a popular song when I was a teen by this title. One of the lines in the song says, “No one else can have the part of me I gave to you.” The song is about someone who has given themselves to more than one love. It is a sad song because both of the ones the singer loves are hurt and so is the one trying to hang on to two loves. The song is not directed with a spiritual focus at all, but it reminds me of a spiritual truth. We are designed to give our hearts away but when we try and give our core allegiance to more than one, we set ourselves up for heartache.

Are you seeking love and approval from the world? If you are a child of God, you will be constantly pulled in two directions if you are seeking acceptance from this world. This world is not your home. The approval you have received from God is thorough. The approval your flesh seeks from this world is temporal. It is subject to whoever happens to be the judge at the time. It is subject to whatever standards are popular at the time. It is subject to change. It is subject to the fickle and self-centered opinions of man.

Relieve yourself from the constant task of figuring out whose approval you need. Know that you have already received approval from God. He will not withdraw his promise. He will never leave you or forsake you in time of trouble. God has ALREADY paid the ransom for your soul. Will you accept the gift? Do you just need to be reminded to say to the world “No one else can have the part of me I gave to God” so you can take a deep breath and relax?

Rest in this today.

Don’t be surprised if you wake up in the morning excited about serving this good good God.
